The songs for 2014's One For The Road were all written in 2013 and 2014. The album has a cohesion to it that is lacking in the previous album, 2011's Sweet Like A Lemon, as the songwriting has become more focused due to extensive and regular live work since 2011 in and around the Lowveld and other regions natioanlly.
The album has an acoustic and live feel, all the backing tracks were done in one take, with very feew repetitions to correct mistakes. "we decided to leave the mistakes in to make a statement about the over digitalisation of musicianship, to get back to the art of performance and playing the instruments. We went for an immediate and Lo-Fi production feel, keeping the instrumentation simple, and as close to my live performances as possible. I didn't use a click track on any of the songs, which made things a bit difficult to lay down bass and percussion. Pete Prowling did an amazing job in one short session, all the percussion was done by him, also with very little editing. They were mostly done in one take, there was no fooling around on this album, we just got a sound and Pete pressed the record button. I'm very happy with the vocal sound and the writing I feel is my most mature work yet, I think I found my voice on this album, its one I'm most happy to share with the world."
